Webinar: ‘Why and How to Avoid Collaborating with the Alcohol Industry’

The Irish Community action on Alcohol Network is delighted to announce our next webinar :

Why and How to Avoid Collaborating with the Alcohol Industry’

Thursday, April 29th @ 10am

We have an excellent line up of speakers; Mark Petticrew, Professor in Public Health in the University of Liverpool who will provide an overview of the motives and tactics of the alcohol industry, and Susan Taylor from Balance UK who will talk about their experience in resisting and challenging the alcohol industry and its funded CSR activities in the North East of England.

Through our work in the Irish Community Action on Alcohol Network since 2017, we have supported communities and civil society to become actively engaged in preventing and reducing alcohol harm and we have actively advocated for evidence based public health measures to reduce the burden of alcohol harm on Irish society.  We recognise that many of our colleagues in the community, voluntary, education and charity sectors may be unaware of the growing body of evidence illustrating how the alcohol industry uses corporate social responsibility activities and funded ‘charities’ to influence policy and undermine public health. This webinar will provide insight and evidence but it also promises to be an opportunity to discuss how we might collectively address the issues here in Ireland.
